CCA SUSTAINABILITY FORUM 20TH JUNE 2023
BUSINESS GROWTH & CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY:
Does Sustainability Really Work?
There are innumerable metrics. And just like purpose and the sustainability approach is uniquely tailored for each organization, so are the metrics. The resultant dashboard is designed from a potpourri of science, common sense logic and lots of smart but grounded creativity.
The awesome fact about sustainability is that we are treading mostly new ground. No blue prints…but definitely blue ocean. Indeed sustainability is a synonym for beauty, said German Architect Anna Heringer.
How do you know for sure? Really, isn’t the proof in the pudding? A sustainability-driven strategy incorporates all the shifting dynamics of the market – on an almost day-to-day basis. Agility is woven into the model, which in turn breeds resilience.
For instance, some companies thrived during the onset of the pandemic. Yet others of similar calibre registered almost 90% decline in revenue performance. Why? Largely because of effective business models that are driven and anchored on sustainability. These models, build in speed, flexibility and agility, thoroughly comprehensive risk heat maps, amongst other factors. And yes, probably a bit of luck too.
Sustainability has quite a bit of low hanging fruit. But, it is not magic. On account of an increasingly harder business terrain, it requires hard work. It takes toil, sweat and long tears. The metrics dashboard will beep continuously for round the clock attention. But it is the only noticeable framework that delivers great performance in our current times.
