Scientists swear by their data…that beyond a global warming level of 1.5°C there will be irreversible and devastating planetary consequences of epic proportions like yet to be seen before in times gone past.
Sea levels will rise by several meters…there will be a complete transformation of ecosystems…and there will be an increase in climate-related risks to health, livelihoods, food and human security, water supply, and economic growth.
Despite politicization of the issue, climate change is an all hands on deck situation. Every individual, organization, sector, industry and geography must act to stave off the impending apocalypse. The rather urgent global ambition is to halve the collective greenhouse gas emissions every 10 years, in order to hit the net zero mark by 2050.
Greening the economy therefore, is dominating the global agenda. Specifically, clean or renewable energy has taken centre stage in this debate. To illustrate, the USA has plans to commit $2 trillion in the next 4 years to ramp up clean energy in the building and other sectors. This, they argue, will ‘create economic opportunities and strengthen infrastructure while also tackling climate change.’
