PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSION CRITERIA
- To register for participation, click here.
- Photographs must have been taken in an African country or deal with a diaspora of an African country.
- Submit entry by 10th September 2024 5pm EAT via we transfer to email cca@woodside.africa.
- Submitted images should be of printable quality.
- The only acceptable manipulation of photographs includes correction of red-eye, cropping, and straightening of photos. No added text, color manipulations, or photoshopped submissions.
- Should your work be chosen for finals, your photograph will be printed and exhibited at the Climate Action event.
- Awards to be presented during the Climate Change Event on 15th – 17th October 2024.

- Any individual or group of individuals may participate by submitting an entry.
- Participant/s must be over 18 years old.
- Participants must be of any African Nationality.
- Participation fee is Ksh 5000/- per photograph/entry.

PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGING CRITERIA
RELEVANCE:
The content and context of the photograph, including the information and mood, should adhere to the theme – Climate Change.
TITLE:
Should be catchy and intriguing, with the ability to attract viewers’ attention, as well as engage them. A conversation starter.
IMPACT/VIEWER RESPONSE:
The sense one gets upon viewing an image for the first time. Compelling images evoke laughter, sadness, anger, pride, wonder or another intense emotion. The initial impact should evoke a sense of what climate action is.
CREATIVITY:
The unique, fresh, and external expression of the imagination of the maker by using photography to convey Climate Action idea, message or thought.
ORIGINALITY:
Novelty of ideas of the photographer’s image. The photograph must not have been submitted elsewhere before, and further, it must not be plagiarized works.
COMPOSITION:
Important to the design of an image, bringing all of the visual elements together in concert to express Climate Action. Proper composition holds the viewer in the image and prompts the viewer to look where the creator intends. Effective composition can be pleasing or disturbing, depending on the intent of the image maker.
STORY TELLING:
Refers to the image’s ability to evoke imagination in what is happening in the photograph. The image tells a story about what climate action means to the photographer.
QUALITY:
Quality of the photograph including exposure, focus/sharpness, colour and/or tonal rendition and lighting.
AESTHETICS:
Overall attractiveness of the photograph including framing and choice of viewpoint, style, design elements & principles, as well as visual appeal.
VISION:
The photographer’s senses, emotions and intellect is demonstrated in their overall output.
